There are a few ways to write a poem called a cinquain. The pattern we will begin with is this one:

Line #1: A noun

Line #2: Two adjectives

Line #3: Three gerunds (-ing words)

Line #4: A four-word phrase or sentence.

Line #5: A related noun or adjective

Here is an example:

Spaghetti

Messy, spicy

Slurping, sliding, falling

Between plate and mouth

Delicious

by Cindy Barden

Your assignment is to write a cinquain about something you are thankful for. Here is my cinquain about what I am thankful for:

Students

Young, curious

Asking, thinking, remembering

A thirst for knowledge

Future

by Ms. Hansen

Your cinquain will be shared in class on Monday, 11/26 (the day we return from Thanksgiving break).
