Welcome To Wiki!

An interactive site for the students of Ms. Hansen

As we have discussed in class, all users of this site possess the same ownership. Therefore, we have agreed:

to respect the work of our teacher and classmates

to post quality work

to refrain from interfering with works in progress

to refrain from defacing the site

Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds. It is commonly seen in tongue twisters, such as Bouncing baby buggy bumpers. Note the repitition of b.

Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds. The repeated sounds can lend a mood to a written piece, such as The ghost moans and groans. When a ghost is groaning, it makes a long o sound.

Remember it is a sound, not a letter, that is repeated. Philisophical fish phone home on Fridays has 5 f sounds, but the the letter f appears only twice.

Your assignment is to write one sentence that contains alliteration and to write a second sentence that contains assonance. My examples should get you started:

Gargling goats gulp gallons of Gatorade.  (g)

The eagle screams as freedom rings.  (long e)

Be sure you post your work on the class page and not the home page. Assignment is due on Friday, February 1.
