Haiku is Japanese poetry. It was invented many centuries ago. It is composed of three lines of verse that do not rhyme. The challenge is each line is limited to a particular number of syllables.

Line 1: 5 syllables

Line 2: 7 syllables

Line 3: 5 syllables

Your assignment is to write a haiku about anything having to do with the autumn season. It can be about falling leaves, fall sports and Homecoming, Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving dinner... the list is endless! Here is my haiku:

A steadfast scarecrow

armored in burlap and straw

protects fields of gold

by Ms. Hansen

Have a rough draft prepared before you post, so you don't spend too much time on the site and other people can log on and complete their assignment in a timely manner. Be sure to add your name and remember to save your work and log off.

You will share your haiku in class on Thursday, October 7.
