Welcome To Wiki!

In the Hawaiian language, "wiki" means quick. This is a quick, interactive     site for English 9 students where they can view daily assignments including vocabulary, upload documents, and post written work. Always keep in mind that this public domain is an educational resource; therefore, students must not write anything they do not want their principal, guardians, and clergyman/woman to read. Inappropriate content will generate unpleasant consequences.

Please review our rules for using this site:

        • We will post quality work that is academically relevant.
        • We will respect the work of others.
        • We will post wiki assignments on the wiki and in no other form.

Your first assignment is to write a Masterpiece Sentence. You begin with a simple sentence and add to it until you end up with a complex sentence. Here is an example:

The Nile flows.

The Nile flows in Egypt.

The Nile flows in Egypt all year long.

The Nile flows quickly in Egypt all year long.

In Egypt, the Nile flows quickly, all year long.

In Egypt, the powerful Nile River flows swiftly throughout the year.

by Mr. Lindsey, teacher

Line 1. Start with a simple sentence (article + noun + verb)

Line 2: Add where (prepositional phrase)

Line 3. Add when (prepositional phrase)

Line 4. Add how (adverb)

Line 5. Rearrange and experiment to find the best-sounding sentence.

Line 6. Add what (adjectives)

Line 6. (again) Change specific words to carry more meaning.

Lll lines- Edit for punctuation/capitalization/spelling/grammar

I will start everyone off with a Masterpiece Sentence of my own:

The fish swims.

The fish swims in the ocean.

The fish swims in the ocean during red tide.

The fish swims slowly in the ocean during red tide.

During red tide, the fish swims slowly in the ocean.

During red tide, the bloodthirsty shark swims menacingly in the lagoon.

Please copy from a rough draft so that you do not monopolize time and prevent others from completing their assignment. You are posting directly to this site; therefore, you are not turning in or receiving credit for paperwork. Finally, don't forget to add your name.
