Welcome To Wiki!
In the Hawaiian language, "wiki" means quick. This is a quick, interactive site for English 9 students where they can view daily assignments including vocabulary, upload documents, and post written work. Always keep in mind that this public domain is an educational resource; therefore, students must not write anything they do not want their principal, guardians, and clergyman/woman to read. Inappropriate content will generate unpleasant consequences.
Please review our rules for using this site:
We will post quality work that is academically relevant.
We will respect the work of others.
We will post wiki assignments on the wiki and in no other form.
To prepare for Shakespearean sonnets, we will practice writing couplets, which are two lines of verse that rhyme. At the same time, we will practice writing verse in parallel structure. You are encouraged to refer to your Cornell notes for this assignment. Read this 6-line poem comprised of 3 couplets written in parallel structure:
Three Things To Remember
by William Blake
A Robin Redbreast in a cage,
puts all of Heaven in a rage.
A skylark wounded on the wing,
doth make a cherub cease to sing.
He who shall hurt the little wren
shall never be beloved by men.
Robin Skylark Wren
Note how Blake advises us in the first line of each couplet that abusing small creatures will lead to the unpleasant consequence that is detailed in the second line.
Your assignment is to write a 6-line poem comprised of 3 couplets. It can be about any one subject, but the title is Three Things To Remember. The objective is to emulate Blake by writing in couplets and parallel structure to give sage advice about your chosen topic. Your poem does not have to have a religious theme. We will read our poems in class on Friday, April 25. Remember to add your name to your poem.
