Welcome To Wiki!

In the Hawaiian language, "wiki" means quick. This is a quick, interactive site for English 9 students where they can view daily assignments including vocabulary, upload documents, and post written work. Always keep in mind that this public domain is an educational resource; therefore, students must not write anything they do not want their principal, guardians, and clergyman/woman to read. Inappropriate content will generate unpleasant consequences.

To prepare for Shakespearean sonnets, we will practice using couplets and parallel structure. Read this 6-line poem comprised of 3 couplets:

Three Things to Remember

By William Blake

A Robin Redbreast in a cage,

Puts all of Heaven in a rage.

A skylark wounded on the wing

Doth make a cherub cease to sing.

He who shall hurt the little wren

Shall never be beloved by men.

Robin            Skylark             Wren

Blake is advising us to cherish small creatures or else we shall suffer the wrath of Heaven and mankind. He uses parallel structure (lines 2, 4, 6 begin with a verb, present tense) to give each example equal weight.

Your assignment is to write a 6-line poem comprised of 3 couplets that carry parallel structure. Like the example, the title of your poem is Three Things to Remember. The intent of the poem is to advise next year’s freshmen on either 3 actions they want to avoid or 3 actions they want to perform in order to be successful at Bridge. Use what you have observed about teachers, administrators, counselors, coaches, and staff,  as well as what you learned from AVID, Quest, MVC, clubs, field trips, etc.  We will read our poems in class on
